Tide Turns (cello concerto)

for cello and string orchestra
2026

‘Tide Turns’ is inspired by the prayer of St Aidan of Lindisfarne, a 7th century monk and spiritual mystic. Aidan’s prayer uses ‘the turning of the tide’ as a metaphor for the transition from solitary prayer in God’s presence to the carrying of the divine presence to the busy world beyond. The piece was commissioned by St John’s College Cambridge and premiered by Gabriel Francis-Dehqani and St John’s College Music Society, conducted by Simeon Francis-Dehqani.
