Biography

 

British composer, pianist and singer


As a composer, his work draws on improvisation, poetic and visual stimuli and natural phenomena.

He has been commissioned by Oxford Song, Ludlow English Song, BBC Singers, National Youth Choir, Oxford Youth Choirs and St John’s College, Cambridge. He has written works for James Gilchrist, Iain Burnside and Anna Tilbrook. His choral works have received particular acclaim and are published in Stainer and Bell’s Choral Now series.

Competition successes include the Lord Mayor’s Composition Prize, John Sanders Memorial Prize, AESS Composition Competition and BBC Proms Inspire Young Composer. 

Collaborative piano is a major strand of Will’s musical life. He won the Help Musicians Accompanist’s Prize at the 2026 Ferrier Awards. He is a City Music Foundation Artist and formerly an Oxford Song Young Artist alongside tenor Sebastian Hill. Recital highlights include Wigmore Hall, Cheltenham Festival, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Oxford Song, St James’s Piccadilly and Lied Festival Zeist.

As an ensemble singer, Will has sung with The Sixteen, BBC Singers, Monteverdi Choir, Temple Singers, Carice Singers and Vache Baroque. He is a regular bass with St Martin's Voices with whom he has toured and recorded numerous albums with Resonus Classics.  

Will studied at Worcester College Oxford with Robert Saxton and Anna Tilbrook, followed by postgraduate studies at Royal Academy of Music with Morgan Hayes.
